Can I bring my family with the Digital Nomad Visa?

Yes. Your spouse/partner and dependent children can apply as dependants in the same application. Each family member needs their own documents (passport, criminal record, health insurance) and the income requirement increases by 75% of SMI for the first dependent and 25% for each additional one.

Does the Digital Nomad Visa lead to permanent residency?

Yes. The 3-year residence permit can be renewed for 2 more years. After 5 years of continuous legal residence in Spain, you can apply for permanent residency. After 10 years, Spanish citizenship is possible under the standard naturalization process.

What is the Beckham Law and does it apply to Digital Nomad Visa holders?

The Beckham Law allows qualifying Digital Nomad Visa holders to be taxed as non-residents at a flat 24% rate on Spanish-sourced income (up to €600,000/year), instead of the progressive resident rate (up to 45%).

Can I apply for the Digital Nomad Visa if I am a W2 employee (salaried)?

As of 2026, there are confirmed approvals for W2 employees in Spain, but these are not guaranteed. The visa was originally designed for freelancers and self-employed professionals. Working with an immigration advisor to build a strong dossier significantly increases approval chances.

What happens if the government does not respond within 20 days?

Under the Startup Act, positive administrative silence applies: if no decision is issued within 20 working days, the application is considered approved. This is one of the key advantages of this route over standard residency permits.
